Shirodhara

18 September 2009 No Comment

Shirodhara is a slow, relaxing trickling of oil over the forehead. It’s essential to panchakarma, the ayurvedic treatment for good health and long life. This video shows the complete process.

Skip ahead to 0:40 to see the shirodhara.

The long, slender thing that the attendants put on the woman’s forehead is a roll of besan, or chickpea flour, made into a paste. It’s used as a dam to keep oil from dripping into your eyes. Not all ayurvedic practitioners use it; some just tip your head back a little.
